Supporting people in Essex with their use of image and performance enhancing drugs (IPEDs).

What is ‘SWEAT’?

This stands for Steroids, Weights, Education And Therapy. The ‘SWEAT’ service, launched in April 2017, is a three year project funded by the Big Lottery.

Our specialist team supports people who are using, thinking about using, or have previously used image and performance enhancing drugs. We offer one to one support and group work specific to your steroid use and individual needs.

We offer guidance and support with steroid-specific issues such as…

  • Achieving your goals.
  • Advice around post-cycle therapy.
  • Effects and the risks of using.
  • Healthy alternatives to steroid use.
  • Steroid reduction.
  • Harm minimisation.
  • Optimal diet, nutrition, sleep and effective training regimes.

We can also facilitate support for issues relating to…

  • Mental health and wellbeing.
  • Self esteem and feelings of worth.
  • Potential body image disorders.
  • Improving family & personal relationships.

Drop in to an Evening Clinic…

We offer an exclusive steroid-only evening clinic on a weekly basis. In addition to providing needle exchange facilities, our team is on hand to support you without the need for a pre-arranged appointment.

Evening clinics currently operate at our centres in Basildon (Wednesdays) and Colchester (Mondays) between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Clinics in Chelmsford and Harlow will be starting soon.

Be part of exciting new research

Research into steroid use is limited and our service is the only one of its kind in this part of the UK. The University of Essex is evaluating the SWEAT service. If you would like to contribute to a better understanding of the reasons people use steroids, you will be helping countless other people who may be thinking about use these substances.
