Since our last newsletter, we have run our first ever conference on Legal Highs, which was a huge success and attracted delegates from a wide range of organisations across England. This was an excellent networking opportunity for all concerned and has really helped put Open Road on the map. We had some fantastic speakers and the feedback from participants was extremely positive. You can still view the speaker presentations at www.openroad.org.uk/news/ We hope to deliver further conferences under our new trading arm, which has been set up to support the core work of Open Road.
One of our guest organisations at the conference was EYPDAS and we have made the focus for this issue of ‘On the road’ a celebration of our first year of partnership with them. I think you will agree from Kerry’s article, that the first year has been quite a journey. Yes there have been challenges, but we all believe that our “Together we’re stronger” theme has proved to be 100% correct for our service users of all ages and our staff teams and volunteers.
In February, we were delighted to welcome the new Essex Police Crime Commissioner, Nick Alston, to the Colchester SOS Bus. Wayne Powell, his team of volunteers and Emergency Doctors spent time with Nick explaining how the bus supports the local community on Fridays and Saturdays, helping to reduce crime and antisocial behavior and reduce A & E admissions. We were impressed that Nick worked alongside the team until midnight. Go to page 6 to read more about a top honour awarded to the Bus in recognition of its dedicated team of volunteers.
Following our recent success in winning the Warren Hill Young Offenders contract in Suffolk, the Head Office team is now working hard on preparations to deliver the contract. We have a great team at Warren Hill who will be trained during April and ready to start on 1st June. And finally, I’m pleased to announce that our latest ISO 9001:2008 BSI assessment, which took place in March, was a success and we have once again retained our certificate for quality.
