It’s a real pleasure and indeed a privilege to devote our October 2012 issue of ‘On the road’ to our amazing volunteers. At any one time, Open Road has over 250 volunteers on our books.

Some stay for brief periods – to help with a particular project or challenge; others stay for years and become ‘part of the furniture’ without whom we simply would not manage. Many have suffered from the effects of addiction themselves or have supported a friend or family member through a difficult time. I hope the stories told in this issue will inspire you ‘hug a volunteer’ in recognition of the great work they do.
Ali Perrott, our Volunteer and Recovery Manager, is responsible for coordinating all volunteer activity. She is ably supported by Wayne Powell, SOS Bus Coordinator who makes sure that the Bus is unfailingly operational every single weekend of the year. She also manages Dawn Allard and Ali Hall who lead on the Norfolk and Suffolk Volunteer Mentor Scheme.
