In the previous edition, I wrote about our work on the bid to retain the Essex contract and I expressed optimism that we would do so. The good news is that we’ve done just that, so a major source of funding is now secure for another 3 years.
So, what does this mean for Open Road? Well it’s certainly not ’business as usual’. Firstly, we now have a fantastic new partnership with EYPDAS which is part of The Children’s Society. Along with EYPDAS colleagues, we’ll be offering a seamless service to young people as they move into adulthood and between organisations. During the bidding process, we forged close links with EYPDAS colleagues and we are really looking forward to sharing expertise and best practice so that both organisations, and of course all our service users, can benefit.
The new contract also requires a modified service delivery model with a more explicit focus on recovery and a requirement to track all Essex clients in their recovery journey. This means that we must deliver higher completion rates within limited resources and a review of our staffing structure has been put in place to manage these changes. All Essex colleagues will be aware of this review. Please be assured that I am committed to making this process as transparent as possible and anyone who feels their concerns are not being properly addressed should let me know.
Finally, I’d like to say how impressed I have been with how well the new recovery agenda is being taken on board across Open Road. Feedback from staff and service users has been really positive and the word ‘recovery’ is really embedding itself into the Open Road way of working.
