We launched our new 3 year strategic plan in October 2016 and along with our annual review, we talked about added value throughout. We have certainly achieved this in a number of ways over the past year, which continues into 2017 and beyond. We gained funding for a new steroid project across Essex to employ a part time manager, two full time outreach workers and one part time support worker. This funding is for a three year period from the Lottery, and a very exciting start to the new year. I am delighted to announce that Jody Leach was appointed to the project managers role (please see Spotlight on Jody Leach page 8). The project will commence in April 2017 and I will up-date you on progress throughout the coming year.
In total over the last year, we have managed to lever in an additional £552,565 for various projects to support our commissioned services. In addition to this we now have over 260 volunteers supporting our clients and employed staff, with a further 50 potential volunteers currently being inducted and trained. We also provided welfare support at a number of festivals and this raised over £18,000.This really is added value, so a big thank you to all our volunteers and everyone involved in fundraising activities.
Also in December, we were delighted to be awarded the Essex Appropriate Adult service, having delivered this for the previous two years. This commences in April 2017 led by Steve Wood.
In December we were delighted to welcome Nick Alston onto our Board of Trustees. Please see article on page 3. As the previous Essex Police Crime Commissioner, Nick will bring a wealth of knowledge, skills, experience and contacts to our organisation.
Sadly in the same month we said goodbye to Mary Francis, our longest servicing Trustee, for over 23 years. Mary will be greatly missed by the Board, Senior Management Team, staff and volunteers. A very big thank you to Mary for all the support you have given to Open Road over so many years.
We also said farewell to three valued members of the head of ce team - Ali Perrott,Tharina Booysen and Joanna Longhurst. We wish them every success in their new ventures.
We have some exciting events coming up over the coming months. Firstly our Mayor’s Charity Quiz night on 2nd February to raise additional funds for the Mayor of Colchester, Julie Young’s 5 nominated charities, of which Open Road is one of them. We then have our sponsored walk on Saturday 20th May - please see our Face Book page for more information. Our annual charity ball takes place on Saturday 7th October at Le Talbooth in Dedham - further details will be available in the Spring and nally our AGM on Monday 16th October, details of timings and venue will be available in the Summer.
Our next newsletter will be published in May 2017, so please do let me have any interesting articles you wish to have published.
