Open Road Newsletter - On the road - Issue 12

Welcome to our Spring newsletter. It certainly has been a very busy few months over the winter and this activity will be covered by various features in this latest edition.

Downloads

Medway young people’s service – we had a very successful launch of our new young people’s service in December, attended by Trustees, staff, volunteers, service users, commissioners, councillors and other partner agencies. We are also pleased to report that the number of young people accessing our services is steadily increasing.

Suffolk contract – Sadly we were unsuccessful in retaining the Suffolk contract when it recently went out to tender. We have thoroughly enjoyed working in the County over the last four years and wish our staff, volunteers and service users, who will be transferring to Turning Point in April, every success in the future. We are also delighted that Richard Bergson, Mia Stainton and David Bloomfield have decided to remain with Open Road and have taken up new positions within our Essex services.

New Trustee – a warm welcome to Lucy Lavender who joined the Board of Trustees in January. Lucy is currently a Magistrate in Colchester and also has a wealth of experience in fundraising and previously worked for The Princes Trust.

Goodbye to Arthur Catterall – sadly at our AGM in October, Arthur, a long standing Trustee of 16 years and a former Chair of Trustees, resigned from the Board. We organised a farewell event at our annual Christmas Dinner to say a big thank you for his tremendous contribution over the last 16 years.

25 Years Old – This year celebrates Open Road delivering services for 25 years.Throughout the year we will be holding a series of events to celebrate this achievement, including hosting our annual Charity Ball which we are very much hoping Bridie and Richard Ashrown, the founder members of Open Road, will attend from Scotland.

Harlow new site – we have moved in to their new Harlow site at the end of February.A big thank you to all the staff and volunteers in Harlow and of course Martin Smart our Finance and Facilities Manager, for all the hard work they have contributed to making this happen. The team in Harlow have worked in a very cramped and unsuitable environment for several years and have been very patient whilst we searched for a new site.

New (or not so new) Essex Partners - Congratulations to North and South Essex NHS Mental Health Trusts for winning the new prescribing contract. We look forward to working more closely with you over the coming years and sharing our premises.

Essex Pharmacy Needle Exchange - From 1st April, 2015 Open Road will be delivering the pharmacy based needle exchange service. We are delighted to have been given this opportunity.

Essex Appropriate Adult Service - From 1st April we will also deliver the Essex Appropriate Adult Service, which is a completely new venture for us, and again we are delighted to have been given this opportunity to work with young people and vulnerable adults in police custody.

And finally again, I would welcome any comments and ideas anyone has on our services or items you would like to see in our forthcoming newsletters.
