I hope our chosen title evokes images of reporters rushing round our East Anglian centres seeking out the latest news and views about our work, our success stories and the many events you are involved in. Of course we don’t have any reporters so many thanks to all those contributors to our first edition and please do keep sending in your stories, no matter what role you play in the Open Road community.

‘Who said the summer was a time for holidays and relaxation? In addition to all of the hard work you’ve been getting through at centres, here at Head Office we’ve been putting most of our energies into making sure Open Road, along with partners, EYPDAS, are number one favourites to retain the new Essex DAAT contract from 2012. We’re delighted to have already been shortlisted and we are confident that the Commissioners will look favourably on our bid. Please be assured, we’ll be doing our level best to get the message across that Open Road and EYPDAS are ideally placed to deliver this contract; that we are already doing it, that we’re keen to work more closely together and that we have plenty of good ideas for innovation to make our services even better in the coming years. Watch this space!

September also saw the annual Charity Ball at Le Talbooth in Dedham. Over 150 guests joined us for an evening of fun, but more importantly, an evening of spending money! From ticket sales, raffle and auction, we raised a staggering £10,000 which is a great achievement. Thanks to all Open Road colleagues who helped in the preparation and on the night. And remember, if you have any fundraising ideas at all please send them to Vivienne Wiggins – learn more about Vivienne in our Spotlight feature.

Read also in this issue about Open Road’s appearance on national TV’s The Secret Millionaire – and more funds coming in.

Less glamorous, but no less important, also featured are some of the many other activities and events from across Open Road – this inspiring work is a testament to the outstanding commitment of our staff and volunteers.

Finally, we need your views - please let us know what you think of the newsletter and what sort of news you’d like to see in it.
