Minister Opens New Treatment Centre in Bury Town Centre
Next Thursday 30th June, sees the official launch of the new Open Road Treatment Centre in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds. Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society and David Ruffley MP will be guests of honour and will officially open the centre at 12.30pm. Open Road staff and volunteers will be on hand from 12.00pm to welcome visitors and tell them lots more about the services on offer.
Open Road is a leading drug and alcohol treatment charity in the region and recently commenced contracts in Suffolk to provide support and effective treatment to people struggling with drug and alcohol dependencies. Open Road’s approach is very much holistic; combining traditional counselling and structured support with complementary and cognitive therapy; this makes Open Road unique in the region.
The opening of the Bury St Edmunds Centre is one of three new treatment centres serving Suffolk; the other two are in central locations in Ipswich and Lowestoft. Smaller access points are opening in GP surgeries, community centres and elsewhere.
Sarah Wright, Open Road CEO says: ‘We are very excited to be now working in Suffolk. We are already building a good network of contacts with partner organisations who support our clients and their families in other ways, with housing, relationships, health, debt or other problems. We are keen to build on our excellent track record in Essex and to make sure we have effective relationships with our new partners and service users in the Suffolk community. The launches of our Suffolk centres mark an important first step in achieving these aims.’
Open Road Bury provides structured day care programmes with the aim of helping clients and their families on the road to recovery. ‘We offer individual attention, confidentiality, trust and above all hope for the future.’ Says Sarah, ‘This has been our guiding principle for over 20 years and continues to be effective for the vast majority of our clients.’
Open Road volunteer and former service user Dan Oliver added: ‘Volunteering has given me access to training and experience which I’m confident will lead me to finding full time employment. My self-esteem and determination grow on a daily basis, thanks to services such as Open Road.”
All three Suffolk launches are taking place during ‘Recovery Month’ – a regional initiative to promote the many organisations across the Eastern Region that support people struggling with addictions.
