Colchester Business Awards 2010
Open Road picked up two awards at the Colchester and District Business Awards on Friday 26th November 2010.
Open Road gained awards in two categories and were up against stiff competition from a number of other Colchester businesses. In the Business Innovation of the Year Award Open Road won the top prize for its Colchester-based SOS Bus Project. Open Road also won in the Education and Lifelong Learning category.
The Colchester SOS Bus Project is a truly innovative service. The service is co-ordinated by a full time employee and a team of dedicated volunteers. The service operates on Friday and Saturday nights in Colchester Town Centre and the volunteer team are now a familiar and indispensable sight in their high visibility yellow uniforms. The SOS Bus is also available for hire during the week for public safety and health promotion purposes.
Open Road is committed to developing its workforce and offers a range of internal and external training and learning opportunities for paid staff and volunteers. Open Road also helps its service users to access education, training and employment opportunities through its New Horizons project.
As part of the judging process, Open Road was visited by representatives from the award sponsors who gained an insight into the work carried out by staff and volunteers. The award for Business Innovation was sponsored by Goody Burrett LLP and the sponsor for the Education and Lifelong Learning awards was Catten College. The Colchester Business Awards are organised by local newspaper group Newsquest.
